Chip efficiency varies between colors. These recommended resistor values are calculated from the DIS-1024-007.pdf datasheet values for individual color chip output with the
Red
LED used as the reference and driven to the near maximum current limit. Currents are approximate but should be close. If fine tuning is desired, adjust the Green and Blue resistors for best balance.
Optional: DIY removal of protective housing:
This assembly was designed specifically as a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus [SCBA

] status indicator for firefighters. It had to be rugged and waterproof. And it had to be bright so firefighters could watch each other's air supply in smoke filled rooms.
You may not need the large clear epoxy shell. Removing the shell will leave the wired LED intact in the metal bushing. Check the before & after pictures below.
We removed the shell by carefully making shallow hacksaw cuts on both sides and then prying the halves apart. The LED is recessed and damage can be avoided by keeping the cuts on the epoxy shell shallow. Do NOT try to dissolve the shell with strong solvents. Solvents may dissolve the LED too.
We do not recommend removing the 5mm LED from the metal bushing.
We only ship complete assemblies with the clear shell housing intact. The pictures below are informational and shown for comparison only. Please, NO refunds for altered assemblies.
