Occasionally, I hand color one of my limited edition prints -- turning that print into a completely unique, original watercolor painting. That's what I've done here with “BUILT TO TROT”, which depicts a magnificent Hackney stallion posing in stud tack. Every inch of this grand pony suggests the ability to move in championship style. "BUILT TO TROT" depicts a magnificent Hackney stallion posing in stud tack. Every inch of this grand pony suggests the ability to move in championship style. With refinement, quality, attitude and expression, this flashy individual is everything a Hackney should be. Having bred, raised, trained and shown Hackneys for over 20 years, MR. WALLS became extremely familiar with the breed and its characteristics. The drawing was done completely from imagination and shows the artist's concept of the ultimate Hackney pony.
JAMES WALLS has been portraying all breeds of horses for the better part of 50 years. At the young age of 16, three of his pictures (Roxie Highland, Night Flower and Montrose) were placed on display at the American Saddle Horse Museum. The artist also created the well-known pictures of the "American Saddlebred Foundation Sires" for the Museum in Lexington, Kentucky, and has done numerous portraits for prominent owners of all types of horses throughout the world. He has also done posters for major horse shows, including the Lexington Junior League Show and the prestigious Gladstone Driving Event, conducted a very popular course in equine art for many years, and has lectured on the subject of animal portrayal at prominent colleges. MR. WALLS' work has often been compared to that of the late great GEORGE FORD MORRIS.
Mr. Walls is planning on producing more portraits and prints of both great show and breeding  Hackneys, along with noted stars of other breeds, so be sure to keep an eye on our auctions.
