F.A.Q.
Q1. What does the amp repair evaluation include?
A. Your amp will be bench tested, troubleshooted, evaluated and the repair process started. With electronics, many times defective parts must be replaced to do further troubleshooting to find the root cause of the amp's failure.
Q2. Shops that give free estimates, what's the deal?
The deal is you end up paying more for your amp repair. They don't offer reasonable flat rate repairs but will give you a high price "range" estimate. They will say :"It will be between $$ and $$$"  This is because since they don't receive any bench fee upfront they will spend very little time evaluating your amp much less put in any parts if needed to do further troubleshooting. But what they will do is try to make it up on the back end with a high repair estimate hoping you will just pay it.
Q3.  What if the problem with my amp is something very simple like a dirty switch? Would it still be the full amp repair flat rate?
A. No, as long as the amp does not have to be taken apart and troubleshooted then the only charge would be the amp repair evaluation fee.
Q4. What is the repair turnaround time?
A.That varies but typically 3-4 weeks depending on the current amp repair workload at the time you send your amp in. Electronic repairs in general are often unpredictable timewise for completing a repair so turnaround time is a best guess estimate depending how much time is spent to complete previous amp repairs.
Q5. What would make a amp unrepairable?
A. 1.Water damage that causes corrosion.
2. Open or shorted internal traces. JL Audio Slash series amps use a 3 layer board and JL Audio also does not release schematics for any of their amps. Consequently any short or open in the center layer is inaccessible and unrepairable.
3. Heat damaged boards are often unrepairable as they usually have resistive shorted internal traces.
4. Amps that upon inspection were obviously worked on before by someone inexperienced in electronic repair and soldering. Time spent troubleshooting "man-made problems" in addition to the root cause of the amp's failure can be excessive. Such amps will be returned.
Common problems with car amps that are repairable- no output, distorted output, dead amp, amp stays in protect mode, low impedance mode, thermal problems that start after the amp is on for awhile such as distorted or no output, amp shuts down or goes into protect mode.
If your amp is found to be unrepairable you will notified and your unrepaired amp shipped back to you at no additional charge. Any parts replaced during the repair process will be left installed in your amp at no charge.

You must properly pack and send in your amp for repair to the address below. The best box to use and best value is a medium flat USPS Priority Mail flat rate box. Cost is only .35 to ship from anywhere in USA including Alaska and Hawaii. Please remove the endplates before shipping your amp as they are very brittle and often break in shipping. Send me the tracking number after you ship it.
If you decide to use your own box use a box large enough to allow 1.5-2 inches of room on all sides of the amp for packing material. Do not use your JL Audio box to ship it unless you don't want it back as I
only
use the medium USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes for shipping amps back. Do not use newspaper for packing material, use bubblewrap, styrofoam peanuts or a combination of the two. If the amp is packed properly it should not shift in the box when shaken. You may want to purchase shipping insurance when you ship it.The shipping address is at the bottom of the listing.
