The fruit body (apothecium) of morel edible is large, fleshy, hollow inside, which is why the fungus is very light in weight, 6–15 in height (up to 20) cm. It consists of “leg” and “cap”. Morel edible is considered one of the largest mushrooms of the morel family.
The cap of the fungus, as a rule, has an ovate or ovate-rounded shape, less often flattened-spherical or spherical; blunt; along the edge of the foot grows tightly. The cap height is 3–7 cm, diameter — 3–6 (up to 8) cm. The cap color is highly variable: from ocher yellow and gray to brown; with age and during drying it becomes darker. Since the hat is close in color to the color of fallen leaves, the mushroom is hardly noticeable in the litter. The surface of the cap is very uneven, wrinkled, consisting of deep holes, of different size, lined with hymen. The shape of the cells is irregular, but closer to rounded; They are separated by narrow (1 mm thick), winding folds of the ribs, longitudinal and transverse, colored lighter than the cells. The stem is cylindrical, slightly thickened at the base, hollow inside (it makes up a single cavity with a cap), fragile, 3–7 cm long (up to 9 cm) and 1.5–3 cm thick. Young mushrooms have a whitish leg, but darken with age, becoming yellowish or creamy. A fully ripened fungus has a brownish, mealy or slightly flaked leg, often having longitudinal grooves at the base.
The pulp of the fruit body is light (whitish, whitish cream or yellowish-ocher), waxy, very thin, fragile and tender, easily crumbled. The taste of the pulp is pleasant; there is no distinct smell.
Spore powder is yellowish, light ocher. Spores are ellipsoidal, smooth, less often granular, colorless, (19–22) × (11–15) μm in size, developing in fruit bags (aska), forming a continuous layer on the outer surface of the cap. Aski cylindrical, 330 × 20 microns in size.
