Horse art by renowned equine artist Sam Savitt bedecking a 1980 calendar on a leather scroll. It was produced for Durango Tamarron and provided as a gratuity by Dick Eilers, president, World Insurance Co., whose card accompanies the calendar.
Savitt (1917-2000) was an equine artist, writer and teacher. He illustrated more than 130 book in addition to his own. In 1955, he was named the official illustrator of the U.S. Equestrian Team and was a founding member of the American Academy of Equine Art. Several of the charts he created showing different breeds of horses are considered so authoritative they have been used by the Smithsonian Institution.
    Manufacturer unknown.
Leather calendar measures 5” x 16 7/8”. A leather string measuring approximately 5 ¾” is attached to the top for hanging.
